To date, only three women, all of Chinese origin, had achieved a world double: Li Linweng (1983 and 1989), Han Aiping (1985 and 1987) and Xie Xingfang(2005 and 2006). Now, Carolina Marín has managed to achieve this same milestone, a fact that is already part of the most important achievements in the history of Spanish sport .

With her brilliant victory in Jakarta, Carolina Marín can boast of having entered the legend of Spanish sport . The Huelva took her second badminton world championship to show that she is up to the best players of this sport of all time and, of course, that she is beginning to forge her legend as one of the best national sportsmen of the moment .

An intense and exciting match for Carolina Marín

In the duel between the first two players in the world, the 22-year-old Spaniard overcame herself to achieve the second victory in five games against Nehwal, whom she had only managed to win in the last of her four matches, last month. March at the Yonex All England. As then, the world champion had to put all her resources and something else into play.

After winning the first quarter by 21-16 in the fourth point she had, the Spaniard started the second one overtaken by Nehwal, but in a spectacular reaction the worst moment of the game, in which she had a clear disadvantage of six points, and He ended up winning 21-19 to the second match point. The phrase ‘ I can because I think I can ‘, motto of the 2014 World Championships, was key in Carolina’s victory.

Undoubtedly, the  great anecdote of the final  had to do with the delivery of medals. After the impressive final that was lived in Jakarta, the Spanish received the gold medal. After getting on the podium,  the Spanish anthem started to sound … but  with the words  of José María Pemán !! , before the incredulity of the Spaniards present and of Carolina herself. Undoubtedly an anecdote that  does not tarnish in the least  the great success achieved by Carolina Marín.

The episode recalled the final of the 2003 Davis Cup between Australia and Spain, when to the surprise of the Spanish players a trumpeter played the Anthem of Irrigation , before the stupor and outrage of the then Secretary of State for Sport, Juan Antonio Gómez Angulo . Later, in the 2009 Tour , the anthem of Denmark was played in honor of Alberto Contador when the Madrid rider enjoyed the podium of the Champs-Élysées.
