Zheng/Huang Defeated In Second Round In Title Defence Match

Zheng/Huang were defeated today by Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek during an attempt to defend their title after obtaining four World Tour Super 1000 titles.

According to HSBC BFW World Tour, Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong faced off against Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek today in an attempt to defend their title following four World Tour Super 1000 wins. The match came to an abrupt end in the second round when Piek and Tabeling beat the title holders, and cemented their position as the first to beat the former duo this early since late 2017. The event took place at the YONEX All England 2020 event.

Shortly after Huang and Sheng were defeated, the 2018 champions were also defeated by Lauren Smith and Marcus Ellis. This means both finalists from the last championships are completely out of contention.

As for the defeat of Huang and Zheng, analysts say the performance of Piek and Tabeling was phenomenal, and is by far the main reason as to their success. The Chinese players are highly skilled, and put up a fight, but they were no match for the skill of the latter. Tabeling’s attacks were strong, and Piek controlled the front for the majority of the matchup.

After the match, reporters noted that the winning pair were essentially jumping with joy. Piek told reporters that she was incredibly happy with their performance, and was almost at a loss for words. They went on to say that beating the Chinese was their dream, and now that they did it, and did it well, they couldn’t be happier. They went on to say that their skills were perfect, their plays and setup were perfect, and everything else they did was perfect.
